In 1999, Harvester Trust bought a derelict site in the centre of Tonbridge – ideal for a multi-purpose building which would be home for a church, centre for community activities and a conference and meeting venue – a multi-purpose and flexible building to make a difference in every way into all aspects of people’s lives and recognised as “a valuable local asset”. We recognize that “Buildings don’t change lives, but what goes on inside them does”.
With this in mind, The River Centre and its team aims to fulfill high expectations of both clients and their delegates on all fronts in terms of venue facilities and services, technology and support; combining these core elements as a centre of excellence to enable others fulfill their full potential thereby serving businesses and community in the heart of Kent. Our Conference Centre is strategically positioned in the south east of England alongside the banks of the river Medway, just a short distance from Tonbridge Castle – a Norman fortress.
The River Centre History
Aspiration to excellence was part of the design before any foundations for this spectacular £4 million building were laid. The River Centre, with its award winning design, was officially opened in January 2003, but the virgin land was first purchased by the Harvester Trust in 1999. Interestingly, no record of a previous building on this prime riverside site could be found.
The Harvester Trust built The River Centre primarily as a church and a centre for the local community. However the state-of-the art, award winning building is well suited to host a variety of Corporate events. The clean, light and airy surrounds of The River Centre provide a welcoming environment for banquets, cocktail receptions, exhibitions, conferences, meetings, training events and product launches.
River Centre Mission
Our mission at The River Centre is to steward the resources we have, be committed to hosting an environment of excellence and achievement and it is therefore our hope that everyone we encounter feels welcome, valued and empowered. Our team focus is to deliver what we promise and to inspire and enable others to do the same.
River Centre Vision
Our vision is as spectacular as our building. We endeavor to be more than just a Conference Centre or meetings venue. We value what we have and wish to share it with others whether individually or corporately, enabling others and nurturing excellence in every aspect of our community.
River Centre Values
Our values are founded in the Christian faith, but in accordance with our vision, we aim to be inclusive of our surrounding community; serving businesses, schools, charities and local authorities, using what we have to benefit others.
Corporate Responsibility
We are committed to effect positive change to the lives of those in the local community.
At least 10% of the income is donated to our local charity ‘Open Hands’, which provides material support to low-income families and individuals in Tonbridge and the surrounding communities.
We believe that by supporting those in need, people are empowered to rebuild their lives, giving them a hope and a future.
